Dany Cotton Born Danielle Cotton Dany Cotton (born Danielle Cotton in 1969) is a British firefighter. She was the first woman to win the Queen's Fire Service Medal (in 2004),[1] and she is now the highest-ranking woman in the British Fire Service.[1] In 2002 she was named Outstanding Public Servant of the year.[1] She is the National Chair of Networking Women in the Fire Service.[2] On 30 October 2008 she received further decorations for long service and good conduct.[3]
Career
Dany Cotton joined the fire brigade in 1988.[1] Her first placement was at Wimbledon Fire Station.[1] She had been a full firefighter for just three months when she attended the Clapham Junction rail crash.[1] She was just 19 years old at the time.[2] Her current rank is Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade.[4]
