Daniel Eltinger (born 1981) is a German artist.

Life

Daniel Eltinger was born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1981, the youngest of four children. From 2001 to 2004 he studied History of Art, Gallo-Roman Studies and Italian Literature at the University of Stuttgart. He then moved on to the State Academy of Art and Design in Stuttgart, from which he graduated with a degree in Fine Arts in 2010. Between 1997 and 2007 he lived as a woman, working as a transsexual prostitute for a number of years.^[1]

Work

On his large canvases Eltinger creates compositions of color structures which themselves become protagonists of the paintings. They consist of blots, dashes, and curves that turn into fine-grained patterns reminiscent of organic elements. The natural flow of Eltinger’s works derives from an action, comparable to classic action painting, in which he paints layers of colored ornaments on industrial foil. In an inversive moment, he then reverses their order by printing the foils onto the canvas. The density and intensity of the colors create the impression of evolving shifts, movements, and plasticities.^[2][3] The paintings open up unknown worlds of rich colorfulness. "Most intimately connected with the people," the artist views his works as "the result of thousandfold fertilization."^[4]
