Dan Hoerner Born May 13, 1969 Instruments Vocals, Guitar Associated acts Sunny Day Real Estate Dan Hoerner (born May 13, 1969) is the guitarist and former lead vocalist for the band Sunny Day Real Estate.[1] However, the band was not yet named Sunny Day Real Estate at the time he was lead vocalist.
Hoerner was one of the founding members of SDRE, who formed in 1992 as Empty Set. The band recorded a two song demo as Empty Set, then changed their name to Chewbacca Kaboom and recorded a six song demo. Afterwards, the band changed their name to One Day I Stopped Breathing. Later, the band changed their name to SDRE. From the band's founding as Empty Set until the band changed their name from One Day I Stopped Breathing to SDRE, Dan Hoerner was the band's lead vocalist as well as guitarist. When the band changed their name to SDRE, Jeremy Enigk took over on lead vocals from Dan Hoerner. However, Dan Hoerner remained the band's guitarist.
After releasing two albums, the group disbanded. During this time, Hoerner had moved to a farm in rural Washington. The group reformed in 1998 (minus original bassist Nate Mendel, now of Foo Fighters), releasing two more albums, before disbanding again. Hoerner once again retreated to his farm.
In June 2009, it was confirmed that the band will be reuniting once again.
Hoerner can be heard on the EP So Impossible by Dashboard Confessional.
He wrote The Little Monkey Chronicles, ISBN 0-9707273-0-5, a collection of short stories illustrated by Chris Thompson and published by Clearly the Underdog Publishing. In addition, he and John Despirito co-founded the online art community called The Art Conspiracy.
Hoerner scored a short film by Rohit Colin Rao called "Someone and Someone, Inc".
