The Department of Management Studies Pondicherry University (DMS SOM) is a department in Pondicherry University for the MBA studies. It was established in 1986.

History

The DMS SOM has a unique position of establishing the first MBA program of the university in 1986 and for the past 25 years, it has been catering to the needs of MBA teaching, Management research, Organisational management, government officers training, industrial consulting and management extension with a team of four professors, four associate professors and two assistant professors.

Location

The Pondicherry University is located in a sprawling campus spread over 780 acres (3.2 km2), facing the Bay of Bengal on the East Coast Road. It is easily accessible from Chennai (168 km) and Banglore (300 km). The school of Management (SOM) is the first academic entity of the university established as a centre of Excellence and a stand alone school in 1986. Then in 2005, SOM was reconstructed which includes Department of Management Studies as the parent department and five other departments.

Profile

DMS SOM is one of the major departments, fully funded and supported by the University Grants Commission (India) (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) of the Government of India. Its Alumni are placed in high and coveted positions in industry, government and academia in India and abroad.

MBA program

The two-year (four semesters) full time MBA in DMS SOM prepares student for a successful professional career in management. While the first year is devoted to foundational course, the second year would enable the students to gain breadth and depth of different areas and specialize in the selective fields.

the evaluation of the students is on the basis of their performance in assignments, participation in departmental activities, projects, tests, classroom presentations, quizzes, case studies and end semester examinations.

The salient feature of the curriculum design is that the students can choose market driven functional and sectoral electives. This helps them to cater to their competency mapping so as to increase their career options and strengthen their inter and intra specialization perspectives.
