Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, known in Japan as Dragon Ball Z: Kyokugen Battle!! San Dai Super Saiyajin (ドラゴンボールZ 極限バトル!!三大超サイヤ人 Doragon Bōru Zetto Kyokugen Batoru!! San Dai Sūpā Saiyajin?, lit. "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Battle!! The Three Great Super Saiyans"), is the seventh Dragon Ball Z movie. Originally released in Japan at the Toei Anime Fair along with the third Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken movie and the Rokudenashi Blues movie. The movie was released in North America, in 2003. The movie was re-released with Bojack Unbound and Dragon Ball Z Season 8 on February 10, 2009. Early concept art for the reissue used the title "Android Assault", but the final product went back to using FUNimation's original title for the film.

Plot

The film opens with the introduction showing the death of Dr. Gero at the hands of the Androids 17 and 18, and also revealing that Gero is still around in the form of an underground computer, still working on three new Androids.

The real story now begins with the completion of Androids 14 and 15, who attack Goku while he is shopping with Chi-Chi and Gohan. Not wanting to destroy the city they are in, Goku and Future Trunks, who had arrived just then, leave for an uninhabited Arctic area. The fight seems even until Android 13 shows up - at least until Vegeta and Piccolo arrive. At that point of time, both Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks ascend to their Super Saiyan forms and 14 and 15 are destroyed by Trunks and Vegeta, respectively. Just when the fight seems won, 13 shows off his "Super" form by absorbing two components of the two fallen Androids, transforming into a blue behemoth and vastly increasing his power, changing the battle's outcome yet again. Despite all their efforts, Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Trunks are subsequently beaten by the powerful android. But then Goku prepares his Spirit Bomb, and, after transforming into a Super Saiyan, he absorbs its energy into his body (Krillin remarks that Goku's ability to transform shows that he retains his pure heart in Super Saiyan form) and destroys the Android menace. As 13, 14, and 15 are ultimately destroyed, Dr. Gero's computer shuts down for good, while still shouting the words "Goku must die!". Later Goku and his friends are healing in the hospital. The film closes with Piccolo and Vegeta sitting on a piece of ice. In the english dub Piccolo asks Vegeta, "Is it over?", to which Vegeta responds, "Not 'til the fish jumps". A small fish jumps in front of him and he quickly responds "It's over". In the japanese original they are silent.

Notes

  • In the FUNimation dub of the movie, during the scenes at the shopping mall and the restaurant early on, Pachelbel's Canon can be heard in the background.
  • The edited version of the film cuts out the scene where Android 13 grabs Goku by the leg and punches him in the groin, replacing it with a white flash of light. This scene is frequently used in internet memes.
  • In Japan, as a part of Bandai's Super Battle Collection series of Japanese Dragon Ball toys, a 3-pack of figures from the line consisting of Super Saiyan versions of Goku, Trunks, and Vegeta was released, as a promotional item for the film. It has since become one of the most sought-after Dragon Ball toys ever made, commanding prices in the hundreds of dollars on auction sites like eBay.
  • This is one of the few movies where all English versions of it have curse words (Android 13 uses the word "ass" twice and the word "damn" once). Nicktoons aired it uncensored with a TV-Y7-FV rating, like all other movies.
