However, it is now known as Leer because of the many Leer trees grows in Dok's central or Dargiw.

Economy

Leer is the second largest town besides Mayom as well as the fastest growing town in Unity State or Western Upper Nile. Here local people bring many goods from other towns, such as Mayom, Rupkuach, and Panyijiar and sells them in Leer town. However, what makes Leer being the fastest growing town in Unity State, is because of its importer and exporter Wichkier Doak kown as Adok located on the River Nile. Adok is the only main port of Dok. However, all the ships that imports and exports goods from Kosti and Upper Nile to Juba the capital city of South Sudan, all pass here.

Education and Health

Leer has both primary and secondary schools. However, due to the second civil war in Sudan, Leer Secondary schools were closed because there were no many qualified teachers to teach at secondary levels. But unlike other towns in Unity State particularly, Leer is the only town that has got the best public hospital in South Sudan in general.
