Father Cyril Bernard Papali, O.C.D.. Born in the city of Cochin, Kerala, India in 1902. Father Cyril was a Carmelite monk of the Manjummel Province. He later served in the Vatican, and was peritus to Vatican II on the question of the laity, and teacher of Hinduism in Urban University in Rome. He was the author of several books including Hinduism: religion and philosophy.

Father Cyril Papali is currently being considered for canonization. There are only two persons of Indian origin ever canonized as saints by the Roman Catholic Church. Saint Alphonsa Muttathupadathu was the second, canonized on 12 October 2008.
