- Cuween Hill Chambered Cairn
-
Cuween Hill Chambered Cairn is a cairn on the main island in the islands of Orkney. It is located on top of a hill and is a cairn, similar in design to Maeshowe, but on a much smaller basis. Access to the cairn is on foot, through the original entrance, although visitors will need to crawl through on hands and knees. Inside the roof has been replaced with a modern one, due to 19th century explorers breaking it. There is enough room inside to stand, despite the limited light. The cairn was excavated in 1901 and is thought to date from around 3000 BC. It is in the care of Historic Scotland
