Coundon TT Full name Coundon TT Football Club Nickname(s) The Tuns Founded 1976 (as Three Tuns) Dissolved 1991 Ground Leeholme School Field (1976–1986) 1990–91 Wearside Football League, 14th Coundon TT Football Club was an English amateur association football club based in the village of Coundon, County Durham. Originally founded as a Sunday league team for the Three Tuns public house in 1976, the club initially played in the Durham and Auckland local leagues. Three Tuns joined the Wearside Football League for the 1982–83 season, finishing fifth in the division in their inaugural campaign. Three Tuns were runners up in the league the following season, and also entered the FA Vase for the first time. However, they were knocked out in the Preliminary Round after losing 0–3 to Yorkshire Amateur. In 1984–85, the club participated in the FA Cup—the foremost cup competition in England—for the only time, but they were defeated by Billingham Town. Three Tuns enjoyed their best run in the FA Vase in 1985–86 as they reached the Fourth Round before losing to Tamworth after a replay. During the same season, they won the Wearside League with a total of 60 points from 34 matches, losing only one game in the process.
In 1986, the team was refused permission to continue playing on the Leeholme school field, and subsequently changed its name to Coundon TT. During the 1986–87 season, the team won the Durham Challenge Cup after defeating Northern Football League side Bishop Auckland 2–1 in the final. They again finished as runners-up in the Wearside League in 1987–88 and also reached the Second Round of the FA Vase before being knocked out by the eventual winners, Colne Dynamoes. The following season was a disappointing one for Coundon TT as they finished 15th in the league and lost in the Extra Preliminary Round of the Vase. The club disbanded in 1991, having achieved a 14th place finish in the division and losing to South Shields in the FA Vase.
During the club's existence, they played friendly matches against professional clubs such as Newcastle United and Blackpool. Several ex-Football League players represented Coundon TT, including former Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers defender David Barton.
