Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers

CIBBOWS Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers (CIBBOWS) is non-profit 501(c)3 organization that promotes the sport of open water swimming. They host free year-round training swims in Coney Island and Brighton Beach, NY. They also advocate to improve public access to NYC waters.

Since 2005, CIBBOWS has presented a series of ocean races, including some distance and cold-water events. In 2010 they hosted a 5k charity swim in chilly 54F water to raise money for Veteran's organizations.[1] One of their oldest swims honors Grimaldo Medrano, a Brighton Beach lifeguard who was one of the groups earliest supporters.[2][3]

CIBBOWS members are very accomplished swimmers[4][5], and they provide guidance for all levels of swimming and is open to anyone with an interest in open water swimming.
