Cone Health, formerly the Moses Cone Health System, is a private, not-for-profit, healthcare delivery system based in Greensboro, NC, that includes The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Wesley Long Community Hospital, The Women’s Hospital of Greensboro, Moses Cone Health System Behavioral Health Center, Annie Penn Hospital (Reidsville, NC), Moses Cone MedCenter High Point, Moses Cone MedCenter Kernersville, an extended care center, various offices, clinics and physicians' practices, including LeBauer HealthCare (a multispecialty practice).
Cone Health is a recognized leader[citation needed] in cardiology, neuroscience, oncology, rehabilitation and obstetrics. In January 2005, the health system became the first five-hospital system in the Southeast to be awarded the [1] Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence, the highest seal of approval for quality nursing care.
The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, the flagship of the system, opened in 1953 on 63 acres (250,000 m2) near downtown Greensboro. Bertha Cone established it in honor of her husband, Moses H. Cone. Moses Cone was a textile magnate and founder of Cone Mills.
