- Como, Fort Worth, Texas
-
The Como neighborhood is located on the west side of Fort Worth. Como was named after Como, Italy. This neighborhood is an historically African-American neighborhood. Perhaps the most famous Como resident was the neighborhood activist Viola Pitts. The Como Lake was built in 1889. Originally the neighborhood was conceived as a resort. In the early 1900s Lillian Russell visited the resort and was impressed by it.
Since the 1960s the community has struggled to prosper. Despite the West side of Fort Worth's economic booms, Como has remained a low wage neighborhood for decades.
