History

It was created in 1982 by a small handful of successful and powerful women in business, including fashion designer Kay Unger and American comic book editor and executive Jenette Kahn.[2] Initially the grouping had worked successfully on raising over $200,000 for the National Association for Women Business Owners before deciding instead to create their own, international, network in order to try to connect women at the top of their respective businesses.[3] This network then became the Committee of 200.

Present day

Today, the committee sees its role as one of fostering, celebrating and advancing women's leadership in business. It tries to ensure that women will continue to take significant and visible leadership roles by offering a large network of peers who provide mentoring, education and support for aspiring women leaders.[4]
