A taller building, the "Edificio El Faro" is under construction in Sabaneta, Colombia, which is a city in the Metropolitan Area of Medellín and would technically surpass the Coltejer building as the tallest building in Medellin and would become the tallest building in Colombia.
History
Colombia began a skyscraper building era in the 1960s in Bogota, Colombia's capital city. The Coltejer Building was designed by architects Raúl Fajardo, Aníbal Saldarriaga, Germán Samper, and Jorge Manjarres. Its construction required the demolition of the "Gonzalo Mejia" building. It was the headquarters of the textile company "Coltejer". With a height of 175 meters, the Coltejer Building stands as the second tallest building in Colombia; and it resembles a sewing needle, representing the textile company after it was named for.
