He made his debut as a professional boxer on July 7, 2000 against American Jose Hiram Torres and won by Unanimous decision in a four round fight. Colm Keane was a standout amateur boxer, winning several New England and Golden Gloves championships and a silver medal at the 1998 PAL national championships in the 178 pound open class division. Keane was consistently rated in the top ten of all amateur American 178 pound fighters. While fighting in the United States Keane was under the guidance of legendary trainer and manager Lou Duva, handler of many legendary fighters such as Evander Holyfield and Pernell Whitaker. Keane had five professional fights in the U.S., winning all of them, before returning home to his native Ireland and collecting two more victories. Although unconfirmed at this time it is widely believed that Keane is patiently awaiting a title shot with Wladimir Klitschko, the reigning I.B.F., I.B.O., W.B.O. and Ring Magazine Heavyweight Champion.
