Colchicum giganteum is sometimes placed as a subspecies of Colchicum speciosum as Colchicum speciosum var. illyricum. It blooms early August and has buds that emerge white and turn quite pale pinkish when open. This plant is strong growing and does well in cultivation. It is native to Turkey.[1]
