Coláiste Chamuis

Coláiste Chamuis (Camus College) is an organiser of Irish language summer courses in the Gaeltacht villages of Camus, Ros a' Mhíl and An Tulach [1] . Students attend courses in any of June, July or August (courses A,B and C) and stay with local, Irish speaking families. Coláiste Chamuis was founded by Gearóid Denvir in 1973 in Camus. A second college was opened in An Tulach in 1985 and a third in Ros a Mhíl in 1992 [2]. The College motto is “Is fiú agus is féidir” (“It is worthwhile and possible”) and there is a policy of total immersion in the language [3], students found to be speaking languages other than Irish may be sent home. Coláiste Chamuis caters for over 1,500 students every year.
