CodeOrgan is a website that converts any webpage into music. It is written in Adobe Flash and apparently uses an algorithm to translate HTML into musical notes. The website was created by advertising firm DLKW as a sample to show to potential clients. The site was launched on 2/18/10. It seems to have attracted more than clients, however; as of 2/26/10 over 250,000 unique users had tried the site.[1]
The music is created by finding the most commonly used musical note in the page (A-G), and making this the key. Depending on whether there is an odd or even number of this note, the key will be major or minor. The music is played in the pentatonic scale. The notes (A-G) in the HTML file are then played in the order they occur. There are additional algorithms for drum loops, etc.[2]
