Paul F. Hoffman is a Canadian
geologist and the Sturgis Hooper Professor ofGeology atHarvard University . He specializes in thePrecambrian era and is widely known for the theory of theSnowball Earth about phenomena that occurred in the Neoproterozoic era, co-published withDaniel P. Schrag .He received the B.Sc. from
McMaster University in 1964, the M.Sc. fromJohns Hopkins University in 1965, and was awarded a Ph.D. byJohns Hopkins University in 1970.Paul Hoffman formerly worked for the
Geological Survey of Canada .Honours
