Early life
Cynthia Gil was born and raised in Gilroy, CA. She attended Las Animas Grammar School until 6th grade, South Valley Jr. High School, and then Gilroy High School graduating in 2000. She then attended Gavilan College where she studied art and photography and graduated with an AA degree in Studio Art. She then transferred to San José State University and graduated in 2008 with a BA in Film. Known as a “tomboy” of her neighborhood, she was heavily involved in sports, like street hockey, mountain biking, basketball, and baseball. Before she was introduced to the arts she wanted to be a physical therapist or a professional basketball player. However, she never grew tall enough to make it in professional basketball. She is often praised for her bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills, and overall other great skills.
She first realized her passion to become a film director while filming a home video with her cousin when she was 9 years old. From then on Cindy continued to direct and edit various home videos as a hobby. She was first introduced to art in high school when in her freshman year; her counselor felt it would be unfair to place her in beginning Spanish class because she spoke fluent Spanish. She was forced to make up those credits with art classes. She states that, "if it wasn't for not being able to place me in a Spanish class in high school, then I would have never discovered the world of art."
In college Cindy first studied photography before moving onto studio art and then finally making her way into film.
