Christian Council of Korea

Christian Council of Korea

The Christian Council of Korea (CCK) is a cooperative organization of Christian denominations who follow the teaching of the Old and New Testament. The organization's purpose is to study, confer and work together for the accomplishment of the Church's earthly mission, while maintaining the individuality of its members ( Constitution Chap.1 Art.3 )

The CCK was established in 1989 after a devotional service and meeting of respected enior pastors and representatives from various Christian denominations. As of the 16th General Assembly held in 2005, the CCK has accepted 61 denominations and 20 Christian organizations as members.

Controversies

There are a lot of confusions and divisions among Korean churches due to condemnation against some churches done by just a couple of CCK Heresy Committee member who did not have proper theological background knowledge, just like the way people were judged as witches in Catholic churches during the Middle Ages.[1] CCK's Heresy Countermeasure Committee was accused of becoming private organization.[2]

A former CCK president confessed that "bribery has become the norm in the Christian organization."[3] Seoul court’s recent ruling ordered the suspension of chairman of the Christian Council of Korea, from his duties for procedural irregularities in electing the head of the umbrella body of Korean Protestant churches.[4] Recently, Korean pastors are standing against the CCK, which has been plagued by corruption and infighting.[5] As a result, Christian networks and organizations tell that CCK has no ability to purify themselves and must be dismantled.[6]
