Club career
Rio Ave
Since FC Porto´s coach, André Villas-Boas (who left at the end of the season to Chelsea FC) didn´t give Christian Atsu a chance to plays for the first team, the Ghanaian winger had to sit on the bench for almost the entire season, being only called up once in a Portuguese cup game against Pinhalnovense. That´s why, at the beginning of the 2011-12 season, Christian Atsu was lent to Rio Ave. He debuted in the Portuguese league on 28 August 2011 in Rio Ave´s 0-1 loss against SC Olhanense.
