With multiple scholarship offers, Thieneman decided to play under Coach Howard Schnellenberger at the University of Louisville, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business management and was named an All-American football player by the Associated Press. Career

In 1988, Thieneman signed with the Dallas Cowboys during Coach Tom Landry’s last year as a Defensive End. Thieneman played professional football for six years, ending his career in the Canadian Football League with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

After football, Thieneman began working in the family real estate business and obtained a real estate license to better serve the company. Thieneman took over operation of the family business and established his own development company. His developments include family-based subdivisions and office complexes in the Greater Louisville Metro area.

Thieneman continues to be active in football and most recently was a partner in the Louisville Fire, a semi-professional team based in the Arena Football League 2. Under his direction, the Fire played in the 2005 Arena Cup.

Thieneman is member of the Young Professionals Association of Louisville, the Louisville Home Builders Association, the Louisville Apartment Association, the Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute, and a former Self Storage Association Southeast Regional Board Member. Business First of Louisville recognized him as one of the top “40 Under 40” community leaders in 1998.

Citizen Advocate

In 2007, Thieneman founded the “Support the Library, Not the Tax” campaign, a grassroots effort that saved the taxpayers of Louisville millions of dollars.

Thieneman has also advocated on behalf of conservative fiscal spending resulting in improved transparency in city government and taxpayer savings.

In May 2010, Thieneman ran for Mayor of Louisville in the Republican primary but lost to Hal Heiner. The Jefferson County Teachers Association endorsed Thieneman. [1] Key issues for his campaign included:
• Growing jobs by “[providing] tax incentives” and “giving more money back to the people”
• Supporting more “accountability and transparency in Metro government”
• Advocating “[building] a bridge in Eastern Jefferson County”
• Supporting “[building] new libraries without new taxes”
• Creating a “Physical Assault Squad” and a “Narcotics Division” to reduce crime

Thieneman has been mentioned as a possible challenger to Democrat Congressman John Yarmuth in 2012.

Philanthropy

In 1996, Thieneman co-founded with his brother Tommy and football teammate Matt Battaglia, The Mint Jubilee. The Gala event is held annually on Derby eve to raise money for cancer research and treatment in memory of Nancy Battaglia. Since its inceptions, the Mint Jubilee has raised millions for cancer research resulting in a Mint Jubilee Center at the local cancer treatment facility.

In 2005, Thieneman co-founded The Joseph Project as a response to the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina. The Joseph Project gave displaced families an opportunity to relocate and build their lives in Louisville. Through his efforts, more than 20 families found a home in Louisville.

Additionally, Thieneman and his family support numerous causes in memory of their parents.
