Apart from the mention of the Hindu Brahmin population in the Chichlam village, by the Saint Shah Charag, who came from Najaf (Iraq) and settled at Haribawli-shahalibanda province (i.e. Chichlam village - Old Basti now known as Old City, inhabited by only Hindu Brahmins, no other details about the historical, social, economical and cultural background of the people of Chichlam village are available, hence it is necessary to go back and refer the history of Brahmani Kingdom, the last king being Muhammad Shah II, who was ruling from Bidar now a part of Karnataka, about 150 km, North of Bhaganagar i.e. Hyderabad. It is also necessary to clarify that the title BAMANI or BRAHMANI is mis-pronounced as BAHAMANI BY the English historians. As such the name word Bahamani has to replaced by correct name word "Bamani or Brahmani", wherever occurring.
The founder of Bamani or Brahmani kingdom Allauddin Hasan was slave servant to Gangu Brahman, who was NUJMU i.e. astrologer of great influence in the Mughal kings court at Delhi. Since Allauddin Hasan and his family members had received good treatment from Gangoo Brahmin, and to express his gratitude to Gangu Brahmin, he declared himself tobe known and addressed as king HASAN GANGU BAMANI. He had also ordered his name "HASAN GANGOO BAMANI' TOBE ENGRAVED ON HIS CURRENCY COINS ALSO. In view of this fact, the reference and mention of BAHAMANI title in the history appears tobe erroneous. Moreover, conferring titles on the slave servants. was not the practice in those days. History mentions that neither the founder Bamani King Hasan Gangoo nor his successor kings had either ill treated or killed any Brahmin in their rule.
Sultan Quli, who had come to India for seeking good luck and fortune, was in the service of the last Brahmani (Bamani) king Muhammad Shah II, who was ruling from Bidar. Sultan Quli was held in high esteem by the king because of his exceptionally excellent qualities of leadership and bravery. He even saved the king from being murdered by some Deccani-African soldiers. In appreciation of the extraordinary useful services, and as a token of gratitude, king Muhammad Shah II, gave away some villages of Telangana to Sultan Quli as Jahagir (gift) and appointed him as Subhedar of Telangana, as the post was vacant due to the death of Qutubul Mulk Subhedar in 1493 AD. Sultan Quli was already in possession of Warangal and some nearby villages in 1495 AD. After some period later, Sultan Quli decided to reside at Golconda, which was previously known as Mankal-Mangalawaram. He changed this name and named it as Muhammad Nagar in praise of his most respectful master and king Muhammad Shah II.
After the death of Muhammad Shah II, in 1518 AD, at Bidar, Sultan Quli declared his independence from the Bamani (Brahmani) kingdom and declared himself as Qutub Shah,(this name was derived from the earlier name of Qutubulmulk ). Though the Qutubshahi rule started from 1518 AD, it is not known whether the Qutubshah exercised any control over this village Chichlam, as such it has to be assumed that the old system of ALUTE-BALUTE DARI SYSTEM as was prevailant in those days, was in vogue in Chichlam village. The later reference of Madanna Peshwa, (Madhav Jannar, word jannar stands for a Brahmin) in the Qutubshahi history been Kulkarni of that village corroborates this statement. Furthermore, as regards to the existence of Brahmin Population in village Chichlam, it can be said that on account of severe famine in Maharastra in 1499 AD., many Brahmins had migrated to the South and may be many of them settled at Chichlam village because of healthy, beautiful and peaceful environments here. This was the very reason for the saints and learned people from Iran-Iraq chose to come and reside here. The most beautiful and beloved Bhagamati, being a resident of Chichlam village, was logically, Hindu Brahmin, possessing noble virtuous, admirable qualities, responsible for naming of Bhaganagar after her name. As Chichlam village is now known as Shahalibanda, it is necessary to know as to why, who and when the name Shahalibanda came in use and practice.(as no information is available in this regard.)
Further the fact that Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah married Bhagamati in 1589 i.e. after waiting for 11 years and also the fact that he was with her even after the conversion to Muslim (Islam) in 1605 AD, is itself sufficient proof for her ideal, virtuous and admirable character. It is therefore totally incorrect to level all sorts of accusations on Bhagamati, such as; a Nautch Girl, Prostitute, and so on. Even the most revered Mir Jumla of Mohd, Quli Qutubshah, Mir Mohd. Momin is not seen anywhere in the history, accusing or criticising Queen Bhagamati during his long 40 years tenureship. This fact implies that all the plans for developments of the city of Bhaganagar were the results of consultations with Bhagamati also.
