One of Edmontons major downtown hotels the Chateau Lacombe was first opened in 1966 by the Canadian-Pacific Hotels Corporation. With 307 rooms in the 24 story cylindrical tower topped by Edmontons only revolving restaurant. La Ronde which offers sweeping views of both the city's downtown core and the North Saskatchewan river valley below as it makes a full rotation every 90 minutes.
Canadian Pacific Hotels bought Canadian National Hotels who owned and operated the neighbouring historic Hotel MacDonald. After Fairmont Hotels bought CPHotels the newer Chateau Lacombe was sold to investors and it was rebranded the Crowne Plaza Chateau Lacombe.
It recently was resold again in mid 2010 to a local investment group who have kept the affiliation with the Crowne Plaza Hotel Group.
