Charles Ward-Jackson

Major Charles Lionel Atkins Ward-Jackson (1869 – 28 April 1930) was a British Conservative Party politician.

Educated at Eton, Ward-Jackson served in the 3d Yorkshire Regiment and then the Yorkshire Hussars from 1891 to 1907; as an officer during the Boer War he was twice mentioned in dispatches. During the First World War he again served in the Yorkshire Hussars, in France.^[1]

He contested Manchester South as a Unionist in January 1910, but failed to win the seat. In December 1918 he was elected as a coalition Conservative for Leominster, and held the seat until the 1922 election,^[1] when he transferred to the Harrow constituency in London, running as the official Conservative candidate.^[2] The former Conservative member, Oswald Mosley, ran as an Independent, and won the seat. During the campaign, Ward-Jackson denounced Mosley's criticisms of the actions of British forces in Ireland, and accused him of inciting Indian students in Cambridge University to revolt against the British Raj. Mosley sued, winning a retraction as well as his legal costs of £200.^[3]
