Charles L. Tutt

Charles L. Tutt

Charles Leaming Tutt (II) (January 9, 1889 – November 1, 1961) was the son of Charles Leaming Tutt (I).

Charles Leaming Tutt married Eleanor Dexter Armit on 17 August 1909.
They had four children:

Charles Leaming Tutt (III), born 26 January 1911, died 3 November 1993.
William Thayer Tutt, born 2 March 1912, died 24 February 1989.
Russell Thayer Tutt, born 27 July 1913, died 21 October 1992.
Josephine Thayer Tutt, born 1 June 1919, died 12 February 1976.

In 1934, he married Vesta H. Wood (b.1900, d.1983) and they had one son, John Wood Tutt (b.1939, d.2006).[1]

When Spencer Penrose died in 1939, he became president of the Broadmoor Hotel and one of four trustees of the El Pomar Foundation.

The Tutt Library at Colorado College is named for Charles "Chas" Leaming Tutt (II) (1889-1961). Tutt served as a trustee of Colorado College.[2] In 1959, the house he had lived in with his parents was donated to the school, and it is now known as the Tutt Alumni House. [3]

In 1992, Edward H. Honnen (from the 1921 Class of Colorado Springs High School) commissioned sculptor Cloyd Barnes to create a statue of Charles L. Tutt (II), which was placed in front of the Tutt Library. Over the years, the statue have been decorated in various ways, and they have done so with affection, imagination and a sense of humor.[4]
