Batchelder Personal details Political party Republican Chuck Calvert is a member of the Ohio Elections Commission, and a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives, serving the 69th District from 1999-2006. With long serving Representative William G. Batchelder facing term limits, Calvert ran in 1998 to take his seat. He went on to win reelection in 2000, 2002[1], and 2004.[2] Later on in his term, Calvert served as Chairman of the House Finance Committee, which is responsible for creation of the state budget.
In 2006, Calvert himself faced term limits and was succeeded by the man he himself replaced, Batchelder. Soon after his tenure as a legislator, Ohio Governor Bob Taft named Calvert to the Ohio Elections Commission.[3] By 2009, Calvert had become Chairman of the Commission. Calvert had been named as a potential successor to Bob Gibbs, who won election to Congress and who vacated his seat in the Ohio Senate late in 2010.[4] However, the seat ultimately went to Larry Obhof.
