Chandora

The Chandora is a Marwadi community living in Rajasthan and scattered across India. Originally they were a Marwari kumhar - a vegetarian community. They are part of marwari prajapati /kumhar. Some Chandoras in Jodhpur Rajasthan India are of Brahmin origin/Preachers/intellectual class of Hindu Dharma. In the USA one family initially migrated in 1973, since then there are four Chandora families. All of them are Professionals being Physicians. The eldest Chandora pioneered the Greater Atlanta Vedic Temple and the World Association of Vedic Studies, USA.

Some Chandoras are in Punjab, India. They are of the Kshatriya/Warrior class of Hindu Dharma. One such Chandora is also educationally holding the title of Professor in university, Dept. of Education. They have close association with the tradition & culture of Hinduism. They are soft-spoken, mild-mannered and peaceful. They love to live together in a Joint Family. They like a variety of dishes in meals. They are vegetarian.

Origin of Chandora

A part of Marwadi Prajapati, Brahmins/Kshatriya/Warriors sub group, the Chandora originated from a small village in Chandor around 800 years ago. In the old India hierarchy they are a Kumhar by profession. They are following Hindu Tradition and Hindu Rituals.

History

Chandora is named from the village Chandor. Chandora originally belong to Chandor village. Chandor is a lush green village and lies 15 km east of Margao. It has imperial colonial mansions. The mansions were built by Portuguese in their typical architecture. The place has also ancient history, once ruled by the Chandrapur dynasty, which established a fort and a temple within its citadel. This is an excellent place to observe both modern and ancient aspects of history. The ancient Chandor was famous as a port city and trade and commerce expanded here. In the 7th century AD, Chandraditya was lauded as a ruler of the Konkan by his father Pulakesin II, the great Chalukyan emperor.

Chandora are by religion Hindu, and part of the Marwari community and follow all Hindu rituals. They have their Kul devata whom they used to pray. They used to pray to different GODS, to name a few, Charbhuja, Krishna...
