Huntsville City Schools is the school district serving Huntsville, Alabama. As of the 2007-08 school year, the system had 22,839 students and employed 1,933 teachers. The district oversees 53 schools: 23 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, 2 K-8 schools, 7 high schools, 3 special education centers, and 4 magnet schools.[1] The school system finished the 2010 fiscal year with a debt of nearly $20 million the largest of any school system in Alabama by a significant margin.[2]
