Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE) is an independent Functional Safety certification governed by the not-for-profit[1] CFSE Governance Board. As of July 15, 2009, The CFSE Governance Board reports over 700 members who hold the CFSE certification in 39 countries.
A Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE) is someone who has met the criteria and passed an exam administered by the CFSE Governance Board. These required competencies are derived from the various phases of the IEC 61508 standard's lifecycle and the activities involved in each of those phases. Core competencies are also derived from IEC 61511 for process safety and IEC62061 for machine safety. A list of these competencies in the various areas can be found on the CFSE Governance Board website.
