Arunai Engineering College (AEC) is a private college located in Thiruvannaamalai, Tamil Nadu.

A.E.C was founded in 1993 by the Ex-Food Minister of Tamil Nadu, E. V. Velu on behalf of the Saraswathi Ammal Educational Trust. The college is located on the Chittor - Cuddalore national highway spreading over 26 acres[1]

The founding aim of AEC was to establish a holistic environment for budding Engineers and to make them notable men in the competitive world. The College also works a lot in improving the communicative, industrial, technical and managerial skills of the students.

The college has been lauded by India's top magazine Frontline for shaping the very face of Education in Tamil Nadu.[2]

In 1993 the college was granted permission to conduct engineering courses in the disciplines of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Science Engineering, awarded by the University of Madras and approved by the AICTE

Expansion

In the later years, the college began to grow in reputation as well as its size. In the year 1994, Master of Computer Applications and Electronics and Communication Engineering courses were awarded to the college. The presence of such courses were a rarity at that time and this made the college gain nationwide appeal. Later, other courses like Bio-Technology,Chemical Engineering, and Information Technology were approved. At present, the college offers 14 courses in various disciplines of Engineering including Biotechnology,Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics,Electronics and Communication, Computer Science and Information Technology, Instrumentation, Power Drives, Applied Electronics and CAD/CAM.

Facilities

Library

A modernized Library has been established inside the campus spanning two floors containing more than 30,000 volumes of books with topics related to Arts, Science, Engineering, Technology and Management, with addition of the latest books and editions on the above subjects.

Also to facilitate the periodic update of student's knowledge, the college subscribes to more than 250 Indian and International Journals.[3] Both the floors are air-conditioned with facilities for Internet usage, reprography, a dedicated media library as well as a book bank.

In addition to the Central Library, all the departments have their dedicated libraries which have books related to the specific major.

Over the years, many Multi National companies and Indian companies have arrived at Arunai for campus placements.

Awards and Accolades

The students of the college have participated and bagged awards in various competitions and conferences around India. On October 2011, the students of AEC bagged 4 awards in the National level ISTE conference held at Jayam Engineering College, Dharmapuri. [4]

The College has also won many awards in various Technical Symposiums conducted in and around Tamil Nadu and presented papers in various National and International Conferences.

The IEEE Association website of the college has been awarded the second place for the best design in the Asia-pacific region. As a stipend, they also received USD 350.[5]
