cities =Lake Tippecanoe is a large, glacially-created lake in Kosciusko County in north-central
Indiana and is the deepest natural lake in the state, with depths of 120 feet, but reported to be in excess of 180 feet in certain places. Public access is available on Grassy Creek, a tributary that connects it to several smaller lakes upstream. Several other access points exist (with nominal fees) at Patona Bay Resort on the west shore, near Tippy Dance Hall on the SW shore, Tippecanoe Boat Company on the NE shore, and at Pie-Eyed Petey's Marina and Restaurant (formally known as Plaza Marina) on the SW shore. Pie-Eyed Petey's is a full service lakeside restaurant featuring pizza, subs, and sandwiches. The interior of the restaurant contains historical pictures of Lake Tippecanoe and lake-related memorabilia, as well as several flat-screen televisions. The food served has been judged by locals as very good. PEP also has a limited service marina where boaters can get fuel or small parts for their boats. The lake is drained by theTippecanoe River which flows generally south to theWabash River . The river ends at Lakes Shafer and Freeman in Tippecanoe county, both man-made lakes which are considerably more polluted than Lake Tippecanoe.Lake Tippecanoe is used mostly for recreational purposes such as
fishing ,boating andskiing and is surrounded by mostly expensive residential housing. A prominent historical location is situated on the SE shore of the lake; Tippy Dance Hall. Once a traditional concert hall which hosted acts such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and the 60's act The Byrds, Tippy Dance Hall [http://www.tippydancehall.com/] is now a teen dance club with Saturday night dances held from Memorial Day to just after Labor day. Some interesting myths surround Lake Tippecanoe. The most famous include: The "bottom" of the lake is a false bottom comprised of silt, under which lies a spring that extends 200-300 feet below the surface of the lake, somewhere in the lake lies a crashed airplane, and that SCUBA divers reportedly dove the deepest depths of the lake only to surface when the fish became larger than the divers. Rumors and legends maintain that the plane that crashed into the lake was a B-17 that ran out of fuel, or a smaller private airplane. This rumor cannot be positively confirmed.External links
