Gilbert High School is the sole high school in Gilbert, Story County, Iowa.

Athletics

Gilbert High School is a member of the Heart of Iowa Conference. Teams sponsored by the school include football, boys and girls cross-country, and volleyball in the fall season. During the winter season, the school sponsored sports are boys and girls basketball and wrestling. There is also a hockey team in Ames that many Gilbert students compete on, but it is not school-affiliated. The spring consists of boys and girls golf, boys and girls track, and boys and girls soccer. Summer sports are baseball and softball.

Cross Country

The girls cross-country team won the 1990 State Championship. Their coach was Deb Anderson..

Golf

In 1999, Tony Olson was the Class 2A State Champion.

Football

The 2004 football team finished the season 10-3 and finished as a runner-up in Class 2A under the leadership of head coach Scott Auderer. Prior to that, the Tigers has 15 consecutive losing seasons. The Tigers also qualified for the state playoffs in 1979 and 2006.

Gilbert has an all-time record of 136-196 entering the 2008 season. This record does not include a 5-year span (1987-1991) when the Tigers co-oped with now-closed United Community High School. During that time, the team had a record of 17-28.

Basketball

The Gilbert High School Boys' Basketball team is coached by Randy Sniezek. Prior to that, coach Dave Squires led the Tigers for nearly 30 years. Gilbert has made it to the state tournament one time -- a runner-up finish in 1995. Gilbert's all-time winning percentage in boys' basketball is around 60%.

The Girls' Basketball team has qualified for the state tournament four times - 1953, 1955, 1970 and 1997.
