Anton AguiarLoCo was a
Canadian nu metal band. After releasing two full-length albums and an ep they disbanded in 2004.Biography
In the late 90’s, a new sound in heavy rock charged onto Canadian stages. Aptly named Loco, the quartet of Art Desaulniers on vocals and guitar, Brent Bednar on guitar, Norm Bailey on bass and drummer Anton Aguiar have been blowing away audiences with its distinctive, intense take on heavy rock. Featuring aggressively tight instrumentals, brooding lyrics, and unusually melodic... but still grinding... choruses that grab onto listeners and never let go, Loco's dynamic songwriting and violently powerful performances have made the quartet into one of the hottest entities on Canadian stages. Bankrolling its self-produced debut CD, Just a Matter of Time, saw Loco take a huge step in its already soaring career. A smash hit in the Winnipeg market, Just a Matter of Time's first single, "Morning Glory", received airplay on the major rock and university stations. As the band's headlining performances became increasingly more packed with fans, it was also gaining a reputation as a premier opening act for touring heavy bands, including a feature spot at the Shakin' the Lake rock festival in Minnedosa, Manitoba, in the summer of 2000. Through the end of 2000 and early 2001, Loco continued to bring its music across Canada through well-received tours. Their brutally animated live shows have been a major contributing factor to the widespread and rapid contamination of their music, infecting fans like a virus everywhere they perform. Their raging success in 2001 also garnered the band an invitation to perform at the New Music West Conference in Vancouver, B.C., an event that showcased artists said to be on the cusp of breaking out in the industry. Bringing the million-dollar production sound into their recordings was the next logical step in the group’s blossoming career. And they did just that. In July of 2001, Loco released a 4-song EP Breathe to a market that was frothing at the mouth for more of Loco’s unique style. Behind the production and recording helm were Mike Plotnikoff (Fear Factory, KISS, Reveille) and Rob Thiessen (Flybanger, Noise Therapy) who forged the EP with Loco at Mushroom Studios in Vancouver, B.C. In an industry that is accepting heavy music back into the mainstream, Loco remains true to its distinctive artistic abilities, yet manages to effectively create music with hooks that appeals to mainstream listeners. There is no secret to why Loco has become such a steam-rolling success: it is clear through their passion and their performance. In 2002 Loco released their second full length release, "Dead World". They filmed one video for the song "Inside", which they managed to get played on MTV2 before disbanding in 2004. [ [http://www.canoe.ca/IndieBands/band1657.html] ]
