SportStar Relocation

Sport Star Relocation is a major Professional Athlete Real Estate Service with headquarters in Manhattan Beach, California.

History

Sport Star Relocation was founded by Ed Kaminsky in 2004. After over 20 years of real estate experience and rising to become a “top-ranking Realtor in the U.S. [1] , Ed Kaminsky developed Sport Star Relocation to help alleviate the pressures and strains of relocation on athletes and their families. Previous to starting SportStar Relocation, Ed worked with players and coaches for the Los Angeles Kings and Lakers to help them buy and sell homes.

Kaminsky’s experience with athletes showed that in situations where the athlete is traded or recently signs with a new team, not only do the families have real estate needs but other essentials such as transporting cars, school referrals, packing clothes, and putting groceries in the refrigerator must be taken care of as well. SportStar Relocation combines real estate and relocation services under one roof. Their goal is to make home sales and purchases a smoother process. Also, Kaminsky has expanded SportStar Relocation and offers all of these services to athletes, coaches, and executives who are staying with their current team but need help with the real estate market.

Nationwide Network

SportStar Relocation has offices throughout the United States and Canada to assist athletes in all major cities. The network consists of top local area representatives (LARs) who have athlete-real estate experience and keep in contact with their local professional teams. According to the SportStar website, this network consists of 2,100 realtors. Furthermore, the company has contracts with leading movers and concierge services to provide client services. For example, in 2006 a Washington DC LAR helped former Washington Redskin running back TJ Duckett lease a town home after his trade from the Atlanta Falcons. [2] Currently, SportStar Relocation is an official partner of the NHLPA has grown to involve athletes playing for teams across the United States.

Needs Analysis

Sport Star Relocation uses a needs analysis to start each transaction. As former NHL Hockey Star and current SportStar Vice President of Player Relations, Ken Belanger said “Do you have property to sell, do you need to move your dog, your car, household goods” [3] . This consideration of each item that needs to be moved allows SportStar Relocation to contact the appropriate companies to assist with the relocation process. After discussing which services a client needs, Sport Star Relocation draws upon its extensive list of realtors and vendors in order to deliver the services requested.

SSR Triangle

To help athletes, coaches, and team personnel find the ideal home location, Ed Kaminsky invented the “SSR Triangle concept.” The SSR triangle is a fundamental realization that a majority of athletes desire a home within a geographical area that connects a practice facility, stadium, and airport. Taking advantage of these factors, Manhattan Beach has become a haven for professional athletes. [4] SportStar relocation uses this triangle to help families find homes in upscale areas with outstanding schools and low commute times.

Jim Cleamons, Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach, described the company stating “The greatest asset Ed has is he’s caring and understanding…More than the service, they look at who you are as a person by understanding and assisting you. That’s their niche. In this business, that speaks volumes.”, [5] sup In order to provide consistent service and maintain these relationships, the company conducts rigorous follow up evaluations to make sure each families needs were met.
