Filthy Rich Gangster, the 1st Bahamian movie
In August, 1996, the first movie that was truly made by Bahamians premiered at the Shirley Street Theater. It was called, Filthy Rich Gangster, and featured an all-Bahamian cast, crew, writer, director, producer, and editor. The soundtrack was also completely Bahamian. A partial list of actors included "Giles Wells, Joey Jam, Javon Clarke, Marcian Johnson, Felicity Ingraham, Jimmy Curry, Samuel Alleyne, Deniqua Adderly, Delrio Adderley, Debbie Ferguson (Olympic gold medalist), Phillip Sands, Gary Wong, Hubert Pratt, Nadia Ellis," and others. The movie was written, directed, produced, shot and edited by Bahamian "Jimmy Curry", who is now the President of GigaGroove Productions. Filthy Rich Gangster sought to highlight the increasing gang and gun violence that is spreading around the Caribbean. The 12 year anniversay edition DVD is being released in 2008. NOTE: Jimmy Curry is also the first Bahamian to produce and release Hip Hop music and Junkanoo - Hip Hop music under the former, Royal Galaxy Records.
