West is sitting on the bed self harming when his drunken mother comes barging in and screams at him to kill himself telling him that he would be doing her and his father a favor. We see west walking and thinking whether to go to school or not, he decides not to.West is sitting under a tree when Kiren and his gang come and distract him with comments then burn his book at which point a girl called Yasmine comes and meets him. At school he is in PE class when he is again taunted and runs off , back under the same tree yasmine follows him and asks him to take her to the prom.Yasmine comes over to his house before the date and is warned by his mother "not to get pregnant" While at the prom once again Kiren and his gang cause trouble and beat up west while Kiren forces himself onto Yasmine but flees just before a teacher comes. After getting help west gets rather angry at his house and smashes a TV after this his mother asks him to get some ciggerets.Kiren has a dream sequence where he and Yasmine are together but wakens up and almost stabs one of his fellow bullies because of a joke comment said. We see West and Yasmine in there room and west tells Yasmine how his father was burtally mudered and all he had to remember him by was a picture his father drew for him. which leads to them kissing and west walking out. While at the park trying to find west Yasmine she encounters Kerien who this time has a knife and forces himself onto her once again but this time is pulled off by West and after a struggle Kiren accidently stabs Yasmine who dies in Wests arms. We see west in his room looking at the picture his father drew and ironically Kiren the one self harming.
Production
Development
When I Grow Up is the brain child of Robbie Maltman and Kita Himli who conceived the idea had bother getting it funded by the school due to its mature rating worked with the director and made the movie on a independent budget anyway. This lead to minor problems like raising funds for hireling a hall or the expenses paid to hire the equipment. Like the last movie none of the cast or crew where paid due to it being all voluntary.
Casting
Casting happened on two days. the 10th of June and the 17 of june. The early date was the main one for trials of both cast and crew auditions ( mostly cast ). Several people tryed out for West due to at the time Robbie Maltman was going to be one of the fellow bullies. Auditions also took place in Dundee where someone was selected to play West. Problems arose with this contact forcing Maltman to play west and his younger sister ( Amy Maltman ) to play the bullies. The later of the auditions was mostly for cast where it was done at lunch during the school day.
