George Weyman , theinventor of Copenhagen snuff, opened histobacco shop inPittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1822 selling Copenhagen Snuff. In April 1845, Weyman'stobacco shop was one of the fewbusinesses to survive the Pittsburgh Fire. Nearly twodecades later,George Weyman relinquished control of the shop to his sons William and Benjamin Weyman. Following their father's death in 1870, William and Benjamin officially adopted the nameWeyman & Bros .The company was acquired by the
American Tobacco Company (ATC) in 1905, and renamed the "Weyman-Bruton Company" (WBC) after ATC broke up in 1911. By 1922, WBC had taken over and renamed their company after the United States Tobacco Company. Company headquarters was relocated toGreenwich, Connecticut in 1970. United States Tobacco Company renamed itself theU.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company in 2001. *Copenhagen Long Cut Straight: Introduced in 2006, Copenhagen Long Cut Straight is a flavoured version of the long cut variety. The packaging was revised in 2007 to use plastic instead of the classic fiberboard material used for most other Copenhagen products.
