Copenhagen tobacco

Copenhagen Snuff is a brand of United States dipping tobacco (a tobacco snuff product) dating back to 1822; it is produced by the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company. It is a finely ground tobacco in three traditional textures: Fine Cut, Long Cut, and pouches. Copenhagen tobacco is typically packaged in a 1.2 oz fiberboard can with a metal lid. Copenhagen contains 6.23 milligrams of unprotonated nicotine per gram. History

George Weyman, the inventor of Copenhagen snuff, opened his tobacco shop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1822 selling Copenhagen Snuff. In April 1845, Weyman's tobacco shop was one of the few businesses to survive the Pittsburgh Fire. Nearly two decades later, George Weyman relinquished control of the shop to his sons William and Benjamin Weyman. Following their father's death in 1870, William and Benjamin officially adopted the name Weyman & Bros.

The company was acquired by the American Tobacco Company (ATC) in 1905, and renamed the "Weyman-Bruton Company" (WBC) after ATC broke up in 1911. By 1922, WBC had taken over and renamed their company after the United States Tobacco Company. Company headquarters was relocated to Greenwich, Connecticut in 1970. United States Tobacco Company renamed itself the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company in 2001. There are several varieties of Copenhagen products. As of 2007, the brand consists of the following varieties (in order of creation):
*Copenhagen Snuff: The original brand of Copenhagen.
*Copenhagen Long Cut: Introduced in 1997 as the long cut version of the original Copenhagen brand.
*Copenhagen Black: Debuted in 2001; the mid-cut, bourbon-flavoured version of the original Copenhagen brand.
*Copenhagen Pouches: Introduced in 2002, the pouch version of the original Copenhagen brand.
*Copenhagen Long Cut Straight: Introduced in 2006, Copenhagen Long Cut Straight is a flavoured version of the long cut variety. The packaging was revised in 2007 to use plastic instead of the classic fiberboard material used for most other Copenhagen products.
*Copenhagen Smooth Hickory: Released on September 17, 2007. Packaged in a plastic can with a metal lid.
*Copenhagen Whiskey Blend: Released on September 17, 2007. Packaged in a plastic can with a metal lid.
