Hall Ball

Hall Ball

Creation

Hall Ball was created in early September, 2008, at William Paterson University by Alex Gerbig. The initial game was played between Alex and Katie Jarvie. The game began with the two players sitting 3 doors apart in the Hall on floor H in Overlook South. Alex won the initial game and the sport had begun.

Rules

After a week and a half of play, it was decided by the Committee, that a set of rules must be created to control the game. The introduction of obstacles was the first rule. The rules, made on October 3, 3008, are as follows:

1. Game is to be played with one(1) HallBall(tennis ball), two(2) hall cups(solo cups), and four(4) obstacles(Paper Bowls). 2. Obstacles are to be placed by participating players. Each will place two(2) obstacles where ever they want to, to hinder te other players shot. These obstacles must be at least six(6) feet from either cup.3. Before each game, a coin toss will take place in the middle of the playing field. The winner of the toss can either choose their side of the hall or can choose to throw first. In the case of a winner of the previous game competing against a challenger, the challenger calls the coin toss. However, the defending winner automatically chooses side of the hall and the winner of the coin toss will throw first.4. A thrown ball must not be touched by anyone until it has come to a complete stop or has passed the hall cup. 5. When a HallBall strikes the cup, the throwing player is rewarded a point. Game is to seven(7) and is always win by two(2).6. If a HallBall strikes the cup and it does not fall over, a gentleman's shot is awarded as well as a point. The ball is given back to the same player and they the gentleman's shot is taken with their non-dominant hand. 7. When playing in a league, every player must make their own HallBall and jersey, representing their team colors and name, and must be used in every game. 8. Obstacles are not to be touched, for any reason, until the start of a new game. If an obstacle, not the ball, strikes the cup, no points are awarded.9. In the event that a HallBall lands in the HallCup and stays in, even if the cup falls over, the throwing player wins the game.10. Any interference by any outside person will result in a re-shot.11. Mercy Rule - If a player is winning by a 5-0 score, the game is ended.12. For a shot to be legal, the throwers entire body must be behind the cup and their butt must be touching the floor.13. In the event of a player's early departure from a game for any reason, other than injury, that player loses the game.14. Any rule change must be passed by a 3/4 vote from the committee. 15. Any prospective player must fill out an application that must be approved by the committee and must compete in minor league play until they recieve at least two(2) votes from the committee to join the WPHBL (William Paterson HallBall League).16. Minor League HallBall games are to three(3) points and are win by two(2).17. No Celebrity Shots, whatsoever.18. All official WPHBL games must be played in Overlook South, Floor H, between room 150 and the end of the hall.19. There must be a third party present to toss the coin, record stats, and observe the game.20. Puffin - name given to the stat when a player hits a cup three(3) times in three(3) attempts.21.
