Stafford Road were an English association football club founded in 1876, that are now defunct. The club was connected to the Stafford Road railway works in Wolverhampton, then-Staffordshire.

History

The club was founded by the works manager Charles Crump [cite web |url=http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/articles/Railway%20Gazette/Edition1.htm | title=Railway Gazette 1st Ed.| publisher=Wolverhampton History & Heritage Society] and were noted as the strongest team in Wolverhampton until the formation of Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1877. [cite web |url=http://www.fullwood.org.uk/index_files/Page1227.htm | title=Fullwood History: Football Connections| publisher=Fullwood History] They twice competed in the FA Cup in 1879-80 and 1880-81, the latter seeing their best performance when they reached the quarter-finals, winning at Aston Villa en route, before losing to eventual runners-up Old Etonians. They produced an England international in Dickie Baugh, who became Stafford Road's only ever international when he played in a 6-1 win against Ireland on 13 March 1886. The date of the club's dissolution is unclear, but they are known to have survived into the 1920s at least. The railway works that the football club were associated with closed in 1964.
