Matthew Margo is Senior Vice President, Program Practices, East Coast for the CBS Television Network. He is responsible for policy in the areas of entertainment and sports programming and advertising [http://www.nih.gov] , [http://www.wildaid.org] . He is also a Writer and Executive Producer of the CBS Cares campaigns which are seen by 155 million viewers on CBS annually [http://www.imdb.com] . Margo Executive Produced Nelson Mandela's messages on Tolerance which were distributed by CBS Paramount International and seen by television viewers in 82 countries (http://www.imdb.com). Margo is also Executive Producer of the CBS Cares Radio Show which is hosted by Charles Osgood and broadcast on CBS Owned Radio Stations [http://www.nih.gov] . He joined CBS as Senior Attorney for Finance, Corporate Affairs and Development.
Margo serves as the entertainment and media industries representative on the Advisory Council to the Director of the National Institutes of Health [http://www.nih.gov] and is on the international advisory boards of WildAid [www.wildaid.org] and the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. He formerly served on the advisory boards of the Harvard School of Public Health, Center for Communications and of the Harvard Public Health Review [http://www.nih.gov] . He is a former pilot and was a U.S. and global judge for the British Airways Tourism For Tomorrow Awards, a prestigious award for environmentally friendly tourism which was founded by former British Airways Chairman, Lord Marshall. Margo is a graduate of Harvard Law School [http://www.nih.gov] where he also served as the Presiding Judge for the Jessup International Moot Court. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and educated at King Edward VII School. Before emigrating to the U.S., Margo was educated at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He was elected Academic Freedom Representative on the Student Council during a time of considerable student unrest against apartheid. During mass student demonstrations to demand that the government allow integration of the university, Margo negotiated the improbable release of arrested students with the commander of the riot police, Brigadier Swanepoel.
