Hong Deok-Young (1926 ~ September 13, 2005) is a South Korean football manager, referee and former football player. He is one of the first South Korean player to play international match in the history of the Korea Republic national football team. [cite book|title=Centurial history of Korean football (한국축구백년사)|date=1986-10-25|publisher=KFA|language=Korean|pages=287] He was also a part of the Korean national team who first appearance of the World Cup in 1954. Also he was international football referee from 1957 to 1967. Hong was blind due to complication of diabetes mellitus. Hong died September 13, 2005.

Football Career

Hong started his football career at Bosung College that changed to Korea University. Hong was defender at first in the university. In 11 April, 1947, Korea Republic was arrived in Sanghai. In there, national team was played five games with Sanghai amateur football team. As member of national team, Hong was played few games. Hong was a part of the Korean national team who of Summer Olympics in 1948 and World Cup in 1954.

Managerial career

After he retired, Hong was began to referee from 1957 to 1967, as well as manager of Korea University. From 1969, he managed Seoul Bank FC that now defunct amateur team for eight years. In 1971, he was manager of Korea Republic. Hong was part of executive commitee of Korea Football Association in 1960, 1962, 1967, 1972-1974, and vice president of Korea Football Association from 1985 to 1986. Award

In 1974, Hong received FIFA special award of referee. He was inducted into the Korea Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
