2008 Pacific hurricane season , and the sixteenth in the Eastern Pacific proper. It formed onOctober 8 from an area of low pressure nearNicaragua , which had been lingering near the area for nearly a week up until then. It became a tropical storm on the morning ofOctober 9 , becoming the first tropical cyclone worldwide to earn that name since 1990, when Odile was a powerful Category 4 hurricane.Meteorological history
In early
October , a tropical wave formed near Nicaragua. Barely moving untilOctober 6 orOctober 7 , the wave dumped heavy rain on the area, although damages or deaths, if any, have yet to be reported. OnOctober 8 , the wave became better organized as theNational Hurricane Center increased the odds of development from the system. Then, later that day, the wave developed into Tropical Depression Sixteen-E, the sixteenth tropical cyclone of the season. On the morning of October 9, it became Tropical Storm Odile, while located southwest ofGuatemala .Impact
Before becoming a tropical wave, the precursor disturbance to Tropical Depression Sixteen-E dumped heavy rainfall on
Nicaragua , although as of 2100 UTC October 8,2008 , any impact is unknown.Current storm information

October 11 , Tropical Storm Odile is located within 30nautical mile s of 17.9°N 102.8°W, about 40 mi (65 km)west ofLazaro Cardenas and about 125 mi (200 km)southeast ofManzanillo . Maximum sustained winds are 40 knots (45 mph, 75 km/h), with stronger gusts. Minimum central pressure is 1005mbar (29.68 inches), and the system is moving NW at 10 kt (12 mph, 19 km/h).Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center of Odile.
