Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya

= Introduction to the Interact Movement =

The Interact club is a Rotary sponsored non profit oriented service based movement that brings the youth of a nation together in the age groups of 14 – 20 years. The activities of the Interact Club provides opportunities for the impressionable youth to be constructively occupied and mature into responsible adults with the ability to accept the varied challenges they will encounter in their endeavors in the future. The Interact district 3220 Asia Zone VI a Sri Lanka comprises of an astounding membership of 133 school based clubs in Sri Lanka with an active membership of 13,000 young individuals.

The History of the Interact Organization

The Interact movement was founded in 1962 by Rotary International. It has been and still is Rotary’s largest and most prestigious youth programme for over 40 years. In which time it has been subject to many methodical changes and amendments which in the long term have contributed immensely to molding the unique image that the Interact movement portrays to the present date. The Interact movement was founded in order to educate the generation on the importance of family and culture thereby creating learned citizens of the future.

The Role of The Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya

The Interact club of Visakha Vidyalaya was charted on the 13th of December 1983.Since then the club has been actively involved in many projects, developing a good reputation, and also being a proud winner of many district awards. Year after year, interactors get highly involved in innovative International Understanding projects to uplift the understanding between cultures and nations. The club had won citation awards for many years, implying their activeness and capability.

The Club has been the proud organizers of Health Camps, Blood Donation Campaigns, awareness programs regarding child abuse as well as assisted various schools in Pettah and Rajanganaya etc. the Main Club Service project “All-2-Gether”, has been the proud winner of the Citation award for 5 consecutive years.

The Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya has also produced many Interact District Committee members and Interact District Representatives in the District 3220.

Projects

It is required for each Interact Club to carry out various projects for each avenue. Highlighted below are some of the Main projects that have been carried out by the Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya.

Club ServiceInaugurated in 2002, the brain child of Int. Ayanthi Perera, All-2-Gether is carried out as an annual project by the Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya. This project has won the Best Club Service Project Citation award for over 4 years and is a project which is unique to the club. All-2-Gether is mainly carried out for the benefit of the new interactors, where they are given the opportunity to bond with the club members, interact with past members and enhance their knowledge of Interact. Its a fun day for all Interactors, old and new, with many activities and information sessions.

Community ServiceThe Main Community Service Project of the Club varies from year to year. Past projects which have been carried out are the Annual Health Camp, Cure-4-Life, Blood Donation Campaigns, Renovation of School Buildings etc. The Main Project Cure-4-Life dealt with the children of the Army soldiers. Gifts were given to 50 selected children, these gifts included many things ranging such as school books, stationary, water bottles, bags and even shoes.

FinanceThe Main Finance Project changes from year to year as well. Some of the past finance projects organized by the club were The Show, Savvy Spree, Razzmatazz and Up in Lights. Finance projects of the Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya has ranged from music concerts, choir concerts, water ballets as well as drama festivals.

International UnderstandingThe Main International Understanding project V-R-1 is carried out annually with a different twist ever year. Mainly it's a cultural show, a student exchange programe with a foriegn country or a competition consisting of various stages to check the knowledge on foriegn cultures. V-R-1 too is a project that has received the Best IU Project citation award multiple times.

In addition to the Main projects organized under each avenue, quarterly projects too are carried out. These projects include workshops, membership drives, printing of club badges and t-shirts, bake sales as well as many school and community based projects.
