Valor Security Services of Nashville, Tennessee, a division of SMS Holdings, was founded in 1991 by Dan Rakestraw, who currently serves as President, and is the largest company in the United States providing security exclusively to the shopping center industry.

Valor provides security management services and risk management services nationally to over 200 malls and shopping centers in 43 states and employs over 3,300 security officers and managers. Valor also provides security services to many other properties including retail, hospitality, and mixed use properties owned or operated by a variety of developers, owners, and management companies including General Growth Properties and the Simon Property Group.

Valor is exclusive to the hospitality, retail, and mixed use markets. As a result, Valor's training, operations, and efforts are focused on and based on the requirements of these markets. Valor was recently ranked as the nation’s 18th largest security firm in Security Magazine’s annual ranking of the 50 largest security firms. The rankings was determined by Valor's annual revenue of $90 million.
