Soupie

Soupie

Soupie is a derogatory term used to label people from the Mid-Wales town of Welshpool. It is thought the origin of the term dates back to when the people of neighbouring Newtown provided soup, most likely of the cheap cabbage variety, to the then impoverished townsfolk of Welshpool.

Owenist/Scrutonist Links

Recently in the past 3 years the term has been linked to the anti Owenist movement. Being labeled a "Soupie" can also signify an opposition to the Scrutonism movement and of people partaking in any Scrutonism.
