Rachelle Thiewes (born 1952) is a
jeweler and metal artist based inEl Paso, Texas . She is a professor of metal arts at theUniversity of Texas at El Paso .Life
Rachelle Thiewes was born in
Owatonna, MN . She attended a privateCatholic school , which is where she derived some inspirations for her work. She received her BA in Art/Metals fromSouthern Illinois University, Carbondale , and her MFA in Art/Metals fromKent State University . Rachelle Thiewes began teaching at the University of Texas at El Paso in 1976 and is a current member of theSociety of North American Goldsmiths . She also taught aMaster class at theRoyal College of Art in London in 1995.Artwork
Her work is displayed in many art collections across the world, including
The Metropolitan Museum of Art , TheAmerican Craft Museum ,The Art Institute of Chicago , TheRenwick Gallery at theSmithsonian Institution , TheNational Museums of Scotland , and theRoyal College of Art , London.Rachelle also colllects jewelry and other wearable art pieces from artists in order to help support the arts community. She states in an article in "Metalsmith Magazine" that she owns over 100 pieces in her collection, and has worn every piece at least once.
