Pop
poetry is a new version of poetry that is spreading rapidly. Essentially, pop poetry is thecounter culture response to poems and philosophical thoughts posted on Facebook. The creators see their works as "deep", but those that practice pop poetry see theseFacebook poems as farces and crimes against poetry. Through the pop poetry movement, pop poets hope to shine light on the absurdity of the use of Facebook as a medium for sharing one's poetry.The Poem
Pop Poetry is based on the idea of senseless, mindless, absurd, and obscene poems. The pop poet does not put thought into poetic techniques beyond "rhyme" and, in some cases, the poem's structure. The subject of a pop poem is an everyday object or action looked at through a simplistic lens. Putting too much thought into a pop poem is highly discouraged. Revision is not done past the initial scribbling of the poem. Pop poems are created quickly, mindlessly, and with little thought to lasting qualities past the present moment. They are often written with the intention of drawing a laugh, but are ultimately created to mock the Facebook poet.Pop poems can come in in any form. Popular is the
haiku , theminimalist poem, and generalfree verse , though any structure is permitted. The idea behind the pop poem is not the structure used, but the rapidness with which a thoughtless poem is able to churned out.The "Pop" Subject
Pop Poetry is the original sub-category of the "Pop" Subject, other Pop subjects take the basic idea of Pop Poetry, and apply it to the absurdness of other subjects such as History and Physics. Currently, Pop Poetry is the most developed of these creative endeavors, although Pop History has a vibrant storyline that is close to publishable form.
A Note to the Skeptic
This is not a Hoax. Even if it were, it would be harmless, because it only insults those stupid enough to believe that their "poetry" on Facebook is worth anything, and this is a true creative Endeavor, unlike the pathetic efforts on Facebook. As to the notability of this form of Art, everything begins as "non-notable", however, the Pop Subject brings true joy to those who create using it, and to those who hear their art, so before judging it to be non-notable, go to Facebook, read the poems that are being mocked, then read the Pop Poetry. After reading both, any doubts as to whether the Pop Subject will be "non-notable" will vanish.
