Bob Pomeroy - Maverick hotelier from Northern Alberta and BC. (www.pomeroygroup.ca, www.writer44.com,www.pomeroyarabians.com) Born in 1947 in Fort St.John, BC, Pomeroy pulled himself up from a dysfunctional childhood and a minimal education (grade 6) to become one of northern Canada's most entrepreneurial multi-millionaires. He worked on oil rigs, on sheep farms, in grocery stores,in construction and in retail management with his mentor being his uncle Ralph Pomeroy. The Pomeroy family built the first hotel in Fort St.John, BC over 60 years ago and in 2008 Bob Pomeroy and his son Ryan Pomeroy opened its successor - the elegant new Pomeroy Hotel which features a gaming centre, restaurant and convention centre. In 2007 the Pomeroy Group completed the second largest hotel transaction in Canada, selling a dozen of their inns and restaurants to the Holloway Group for $214 Million. By the end of 2008 the Pomeroy Group will have opened or started building ten more facilities. Known for excellent management, faultless service and meticulous housekeeping, the hotel group is also becoming a preferred destination because of above-average beds,linens and full complimentary breakfasts. Bob Pomeroy turned over the presidency of the Pomeroy Group to his son Ryan in early 2007 but remains as CEO. He has established Pomeroy Arabians International in Grande Prairie,Alberta and in Scottsdale, Arizona and his reputation as a world-class breeder of Arabian horses is growing.He and his wife, Carrie Langstroth, are staunch supporters of PARDS - the riding program for the disabled in the PEace district of Northern Alberta.
